Ambleside Animal Hospital

Giardia (beaver fever) and Cryptosporidium

These have become a common cause of loose stools, flatulence and periodic vomiting on the North Shore. They are easily contracted from other dogs and from contaminated puddles in our many parks and streams. Jan and Feb 09 has seen an average of 3 cases per week.
Dogs seem to easily transfer this to children and adults who allow their pets to lick their faces. We have a few families that have contracted these diseases from their pet.

A fresh fecal sample sent to our laboratory, can test for these illnesses and we can quickly start the appropriate treatment.
